A Journey of Success: James & Winnie Ye’s Story
James and Winnie Ye, originally from China, have been living in New Zealand for over 20 years. They became franchise owners with Clean Planet in 2012, operating in the Auckland CBD. Over the past 12 years, this husband-and-wife team has transformed their small, part-time business into a full-time success story.
When James and Winnie first considered owning a franchise, they knew little about the cleaning industry. Clean Planet came highly recommended, and they decided to start small. With the guidance of Clean Planet’s support team, they grew their business significantly, reaching $150k in annual work.
Throughout their journey, James and Winnie have relied on Clean Planet for strategic planning and growth. With training and support, they acquired skills to handle various cleaning contracts, both during the day and after business hours. This growth allowed them to expand their customer base and continuously improve their services.
Winning the 10-Year Milestone Achievement Award
Being awarded the 10-year Milestone Achievement Award was a proud moment for James and Winnie. Completing a decade as a commercial cleaning franchise business owner in Clean Planet has marked a significant achievement in their careers. They attribute their success to the unwavering support from Clean Planet’s team, especially CEO Tony Pattison and National Franchise Manager Abhi Lal.

James further comments – “The head office and Master Regional Franchise Manager at Clean Planet have been instrumental in our success. Clean Planet’s support and planning enabled us to grow our turnover and maintain high service standards. With thorough training and site assignments, we were well-equipped to handle the demands of any business.”
James and Winnie have built strong relationships with their customers, including large corporate clients and contracts like Labtests, Glennary Wines, and Bear Park Childcare. Their customers have consistently provided positive feedback, leading to long-term business relationships over these past years.
Cleaned During the Day & Enjoyed Free Time at Night
Winnie comments on balancing personal life and business – “One of the most significant advantages of owning a Clean Planet franchise is the flexibility it offers. We were able to manage the cleaning schedules around our family time. We cleaned during the day while our children were at school and enjoyed free time together at night with family.”
James and Winnie advise aspiring franchisees and fellow franchise owners to remain consistent and patient. “Owning a franchise is a long-term commitment with ups and downs. Success comes from working together and staying dedicated to your goals,” says James.
